An OBNE x Emily Hopkins Collaboration for Exploration

Born from a dialogue between creator Emily Hopkins and the artisans of Old Blood Noise Endeavors, the Parting condenses years of experimentation around glitch, signal crush, and ethereal atmospheres. It follows the lineage of OBNE's textural effects with a more "instrumental" approach: each section of the effect plays with random clock variations to generate subtle, always musical surprises.

For Which Musicians and Uses?

Ideal for ambience, shoegaze, post-rock, dream pop, lo-fi, modern ambient, and film music. Accessible yet deep, it suits both curious players and seasoned sound designers. On stage, it transforms a phrase into a soundscape with a single gesture. In the studio, it excels on clean takes, drones, arpeggios, or harp and keyboard textures. On a pedalboard, it becomes a constant source of inspiration.

Controls and Workflow Designed for Creation

The front panel is divided into three zones. In the center, the key control directs the heart of the effect: signal crushing (crush) to granulate and decimate, or reverse for silky or warped backward swells. On the left, a selectable modulation injects movement-from subtle beats to pronounced undulations-with associated controls to adjust speed and depth. On the right, a glitch delay whose behavior can be random or envelope-controlled, with adjustable time and feedback; pushing the settings shifts it into a misty reverb. The whole system interacts via layers of internal clock variations for a lively, never strictly repetitive output.

Sound Character

Parting favors texture and dynamics. The crush mode delivers lo-fi grains, spectrum decimation, and a slight textural hiss reminiscent of low sample rate digital processing. The reverse mode offers organic swells, tails unfolding like reversed magnetic tape. The glitch delay ranges from micro-stutters to stretched, unpredictable echoes, then blends into a cloudy reverb. The pedal responds to touch: soft attacks create enveloping halos, harder playing triggers controlled glitches.
