Rockerverb MKIII: the evolution of an Orange classic

The Rockerverb is a staple at Orange, known for its British identity, thickness in the low-mids, and ability to remain clear even with high gain. This MKIII version continues the series' DNA while adding more everyday flexibility: a redesigned Clean channel for increased brightness and finer control, and the addition of a footswitchable attenuator designed to adapt the amp to any playing volume. The result: the same Orange personality with more modern tools for stage, studio, and home use.

For which guitarists and contexts?

The Orange Rockerverb 50 MKIII is aimed at guitarists seeking an expressive tube amp capable of handling rehearsals and gigs while remaining studio-friendly. Its power and dynamic headroom make it an excellent choice for energetic drummers, medium-sized venues, and mic'd recording, while the attenuator preserves the feel and saturation of the power stage at more manageable volume levels.

In terms of styles, it excels from rock and hard rock to modern metal, including blues rock and alternative sounds that require a rich, articulate saturated channel. Artists associated with the Orange/Rockerverb universe include Aerosmith, +44, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, Slipknot, and Stone Sour, illustrating the wide range covered, from classic rock to heavy contemporary saturations.

Channels, controls, and features: a head designed for playing

The Rockerverb 50 MKIII offers 2 clearly differentiated channels. The Dirty channel is designed for British-style crunch with grit and bite, then pushing into more modern saturations while maintaining good attack definition, useful for open chords as well as palm-muted riffs. The Clean channel has been revamped to provide a brighter response and better control thanks to a 2-band EQ, ideal for quickly shaping a full clean tone, an edge-of-breakup sound, or a perfect base for overdrive and modulation pedals.

The major new feature of this version is the integration of a footswitchable attenuator : you can instantly reduce the output level without losing the amp's character or the gain balance you've set. Add to this a tube spring reverb shared by both channels to widen the sound image, and an effects loop to place delays and reverbs at the end of the chain: everything is in place for a clean and efficient stage rig.

The sound

Fully all-tube, the Rockerverb 50 MKIII stands out with a lively touch and dynamics that respond directly to the pick and guitar volume. In clean, you get a brighter and more controlled foundation with a solid low end and headroom before saturation depending on your pickups' output. In crunch, the amp delivers a typically British grain, rich in harmonics, with a natural compression feel that "glues" the playing into the mix.

When pushing the Dirty channel, the saturation becomes dense and modern while remaining clear: notes retain separation, and riffs benefit from a solid low end without collapsing. The spring reverb adds depth without masking the attack, and the attenuator allows you to keep that "working amp" feel at more manageable volumes, whether in the studio or environments where power must be controlled.
