Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

The Masters series was born from an ambitious approach: to create a set of high-end ride cymbals, handmade from CuSn20 bronze, aiming to achieve high sonic ideals across a wide variety of styles. Originally conceived as a collection of rides with a strong character, the range was later expanded in 2014 with the addition of new crash and hi-hat models, extending this unique sonic atmosphere to other cymbal families. Each model embodies an artisanal philosophy, nurtured both by decades of manufacturing experience and inspiration from leading international drummers.

Target Audience for This Drum/Instrument

The Masters cymbal is primarily aimed at intermediate to expert drummers seeking an expressive, controlled cymbal rich in personality rather than a standardized sound. Its "dark and dry" balance is particularly suited to music where nuance and definition are paramount: modern jazz, fusion, funk, RnB, sophisticated pop, indie, studio work, acoustic music, and cinematic atmospheres. It can also find its place in more powerful contexts when clarity and shorter sustain are prioritized to avoid cluttering the sonic space.

Features and Innovations

Designed around a CuSn20 alloy, the Masters cymbal emphasizes controlled response: a crisp attack, faster decay, and a dense harmonic spectrum without excessive brightness. The handmade Swiss manufacturing ensures great musical consistency while preserving the subtlety inherent to craftsmanship: each cymbal reacts vividly under the stick, with articulation that remains stable at both low and high volumes. The series expansion (originally rides, then crashes and hi-hats added in 2014) reflects a clear intention: to offer a complete palette that maintains the same sonic signature, unifying the set around a homogeneous and highly musical character.

Sound Characteristics

The CuSn20 bronze, often associated with so-called "traditional" cymbals, is prized for its harmonic complexity and distinctive grain. Here, it translates into a dark and warm tone, with a sense of substance and depth, while retaining a quick response. The dry aspect tightens the sound envelope: the cymbal expresses itself with a rich spectrum but shorter sustain, which enhances rhythmic precision and playing cleanliness, especially in studio settings or very dense arrangements.

The distinctive stick sound is a key point: the attack stands out clearly, with definition that helps to "shape" the groove and maintain excellent clarity on patterns, even when playing subtly. This combination of rich harmonics and controlled sustain results in a cymbal that is both expressive and disciplined, capable of transitioning from delicate to more forceful playing without becoming overpowering.
