ABO by Palmer: a simple, robust tool designed for the stage
The PEABO (listed in the ABO range) is one of those essential "utility" devices that save a live setup: no menus, no programming, just clear and reliable switching. Its fully passive design prioritizes simplicity and operational safety: you route a balanced signal exactly where you need it, without relying on power to pass the audio.
Who is the Palmer PEABO for?
The PEABO is aimed at singers and bands who want to maintain control over their microphone signal on stage, as well as technicians, stage managers, and studios needing immediate and repeatable routing. In live settings, it excels at switching from a "normal" circuit to a "talkback" circuit (communication) or selecting between two different zones/rooms. In the studio, it allows quick comparison of two processing chains or two inputs (preamps/tracks) with one press, while maintaining a clean balanced signal flow.
Footswitch switching, pads, and Ground Lift : ergonomics designed for pro audio
Switching is done via a robust footswitch, and a red LED clearly indicates which output is active. To adapt to gain differences between two console channels (or to avoid an overly sensitive input), the PEABO includes attenuators : a dedicated pad position on output A, and several selectable values on output B. Add to this a Ground Lift to reduce hum caused by ground loops, and you get a very practical unit to integrate into a rack, on a stage setup, or directly on a pedalboard thanks to its mounting holes.
Sound Character
The PEABO is not an effect that "colors" the sound: it is designed to remain transparent and preserve the character of the microphone and upstream chain. Its sonic value lies more in control : the ability to instantly switch from one channel to another (for example, a "natural" vocal versus a vocal with a "telephone" style EQ or a long reverb), and to adjust the level with the pads to keep a clean, unclipped, and consistent signal across configurations.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Palmer ABO operate without power?
Its passive design allows the audio signal to pass without power, featuring a balanced XLR input and two XLR outputs.
Can two microphone channels be selected by footswitch?
A sturdy footswitch toggles between outputs A and B. A red LED indicates the active output. This setup is especially suitable for switching between a normal circuit and a talkback line.
What level adjustment options are available on the outputs?
Output A provides a fixed 15 dB attenuation. Output B offers three pad settings: 6 dB, 15 dB, or 21 dB.
Does the XLR switch help reduce mains hum?
A Ground Lift switch is included to minimize ground loops that can cause hum.
What are the dimensions and mounting options?
The powder-coated steel enclosure measures 100 × 120 × 60 mm and weighs 0.64 kg. Pre-drilled holes allow mounting on a rack or pedalboard.
