Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The Centerstage series was developed in California by DW for the PDP brand, with a simple idea: to offer an entry-level acoustic drum set that maintains a true design standard and components usually reserved for more ambitious kits. It positions itself as a "quality" entry point into the PDP world, with a complete pack focused on practicality and progression.
Who This Drum Set Is For
This kit is primarily aimed at beginners and intermediate drummers who want a complete, coherent, and easy-to-tune drum set. The 22-inch configuration is perfectly suited for rock, pop, punk, blues styles, and band rehearsals, offering a solid presence on the bass drum and a generous floor tom.
Features and Innovations
The PDP Centerstage focuses on well-executed essentials: poplar shells, Remo heads, and True Pitch tension rods for more precise and stable tuning. The pack includes 4-piece hardware (stands and pedals) as well as a double-braced stool, providing a reliable setup for daily playing, both in lessons and rehearsals.
Sound
Poplar is a wood appreciated for its immediate musicality: it delivers a soft attack, good cohesion between shells, and a pleasant warmth, helping to quickly achieve a balanced sound without endless tuning struggles. The 22-inch bass drum provides a solid and "fat" low end, ideal for rock grooves, while the toms offer a round resonance that is easy to place in a mix.
The Remo heads contribute to this "plug and play" response by promoting a natural feel under the stick and a consistent sound across the entire kit, from light playing to more accented strokes.
