Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

Owned by Drum Workshop Inc., PDP (Pacific Drums and Percussion) was founded in 2000 with a simple idea: to offer high-quality production-line drum kits, pedals, and hardware accessible to both beginner drummers and professional musicians. While some DW kits require highly customized setups, PDP by DW takes a more straightforward approach by providing pre-established configurations designed for immediate playability while retaining part of DW's DNA in hardware and design.

Who This Drum Kit Is For

The PDP Concept Maple targets drummers seeking a versatile acoustic drum kit capable of handling intensive rehearsals, home recordings, and regular live performances. Thanks to the balanced character of maple, it is especially suitable for styles that demand both body and definition: pop, rock, funk, fusion, gospel, variety, and even more modern genres if tuned tighter. With its extended configuration including multiple toms, it appeals both to intermediate drummers looking to progress and to experienced musicians in search of a complete and coherent kit.

Features and Innovations

The core of this drum kit is based on performance-oriented technical choices. The STM tom suspension (silent block) minimizes direct contact with the shell, helping to preserve the wood's natural vibration and achieve more sustain, while improving playing comfort and mounting stability. The "True Pitch" tension rods promote precise and consistent tuning, a real advantage when frequently changing heads or maintaining tuning stability during concerts.

It also features a DW Mag trigger, appreciated for its smooth action and clear response, as well as cast iron hoop claws that reinforce overall sturdiness and contribute to a firmer feel, especially on the snare and bass drum. The original Remo heads provide a reliable foundation to start with, work on your settings, and quickly find the right balance between attack and warmth.

Sound

European maple is prized for its ability to produce a sound that is both warm and balanced, with an even response across the spectrum. Practically, this translates into toms that sing easily, a present but not aggressive attack, and a natural sustain that helps fill the space-particularly useful for open playing or non-amplified contexts.

The 22x18 bass drum generally delivers a full low end and ample power reserve, ideal for rock and pop, while remaining versatile enough for rounder or drier tunings depending on the head and damping. The 14x5.5 snare offers an effective compromise: enough depth for body and punch, while retaining the responsiveness needed for ghost notes, rimshots, and subtle dynamics. With a configuration that includes multiple toms, you can also build a very melodic set, useful for tom fills, orchestrations, and transitions.
