Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
First launched in 1982, the Pearl Export established itself as a reliable choice for entering the acoustic drum world with a dependable, upgradeable, and musical instrument. This 22" configuration edition retains the Export spirit: a kit designed for learning, rehearsing, and playing in a band, with a complete formula that limits additional purchases thanks to the HWP-834 hardware pack and included cymbals. Within the Pearl range, the Export is positioned as a "premium beginner" choice: accessible, robust, and sufficiently performant to support progression over several years.
Who This Drum Kit Is For
The 22" Pearl Export primarily targets beginner drummers who want to start on a real acoustic kit, but also intermediate players looking for a complete drum set for lessons, rehearsals, and first gigs. Its 22" bass drum offers a familiar feel and comfortable projection in a group, while the toms and floor tom allow building effective grooves, from simple rhythms to more pronounced breaks. It adapts very well to styles where energy and clarity are key (rock, pop, funk, variety), while remaining easy to control at moderate volume with good tuning.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Pearl Export standard 22" suitable for starting acoustic drums?
This model is suitable for beginner and intermediate drummers thanks to a complete setup with shells, HWP-834 hardware, and included cymbals. The 6-ply poplar shells offer a warm and forgiving response to work on tuning and dynamics.
What are the dimensions of the shells in this Pearl Export 22"?
The setup includes a 22" x 18" bass drum, 12" x 8" and 13" x 9" toms, a 16" x 16" floor tom, and a 14" x 5.5" snare drum.
Are cymbals and the pedal included?
A Sabian cymbal pack including hi-hat, crash, and ride is included. The HWP-834 hardware is also provided along with a Demonator bass drum pedal. No bass drum muffler is advertised.
What sound does the 22 x 18 Pearl Export bass drum produce?
With its 22" x 18" dimensions, the bass drum delivers a full low end and presence suited for rock or pop grooves. The poplar shells contribute to a rounded sound with harmonics that remain easy to control.
What is the purpose of the OptiLoc system on the toms?
The OptiLoc suspension system limits the stress applied to the shells in order to enhance the resonance of the 12" and 13" toms.
