Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The Free Floating concept is part of the evolution of modern performance-oriented snare drums, where the goal is to allow the shell to vibrate more freely through optimized mounting and assembly mechanics. In this spirit, a "task specific" snare drum aims for a clear objective: to offer a distinctive sonic signature (here, bronze) and reliable response in real playing conditions, from stage to studio.
Who This Drum/Instrument Is For
This snare is designed for intermediate to expert drummers who want a centerpiece with a strong character, capable of cutting through a dense mix. It is especially suited for styles requiring impact and control (rock, metal, energetic pop, modern funk), while remaining relevant in the studio when seeking a rich metallic grain and precise articulation. Its 14 x 6.5 format is ideal if you like a snare that "speaks" loudly but maintains good sensitivity to nuances and ghost notes when tuned carefully.

Questions frequently asked
What sound does a 14 x 6.5 inch phosphor bronze snare drum produce?
Phosphor bronze delivers a crisp attack, strong projection, and rich harmonics. The 14-inch diameter combined with the 6.5-inch depth enhances body in the midrange and presence at medium or low tuning.
Is this Pearl Free Floating snare drum suitable for rock and metal?
This model is designed for styles requiring impact and control, notably rock, metal, energetic pop, and modern funk. Its 6.5-inch depth promotes a pronounced presence in a dense mix. The DieCast cast hoops contribute to a sharp rimshot.
What is the purpose of the SR-1000F trigger?
The SR-1000F trigger ensures a clean on/off operation of the snare. It allows adjustment of the snare response between tight, precise playing and a more open sound.
Do the cast hoops affect tuning?
DieCast cast hoops promote a focused sound, better harmonic control, and more stable tuning retention.
What hardware equips this bronze snare drum?
The polished steel hardware includes FT-65 shells and 10 stainless steel SST-5042 tension rods. The SN1420I snare strainer ensures consistent contact on the resonant head.
