Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The JH6 are part of Promark's Jonathan Haas series, designed to meet the needs of timpanists in orchestral and ensemble settings. Within this range, the "Soft" version emphasizes musicality, smoothness, and sound continuity, especially when the score requires long sustains and delicate dynamics.
Target Audience for This Drum/Instrument
These timpani sticks are aimed at intermediate to expert percussionists seeking a soft mallet for symphonic repertoire, opera, chamber music, and contexts where controlled presence is preferred over sharp attack. They are also well suited for conservatory students who want to work on roll consistency, dynamic control, and timbre homogeneity.

Questions frequently asked
Are Promark JH6 mallets suitable for timpani rolls?
The felt head with soft covering promotes dense rolls and increased sound continuity. The Shira Kashi oak maintains a precise trajectory during long rolls.
What sound do these very soft timpani sticks produce?
The felt softens the attack and reduces the high frequencies. The resulting tone is warm and round, especially in piano to mezzo-forte dynamics.
For which repertoire are very soft timpani mallets recommended?
This model is suitable for symphonic repertoire, opera, and chamber music when the attack needs to remain subtle. The Soft version of the Jonathan Haas series emphasizes blending between strokes.
What material is the shaft of the Promark JH6 made from?
The shaft is made from Shira Kashi oak. This material provides a controlled stiffness feel and a clear energy transfer in the hand.
Are these mallets suitable for conservatory students?
They are intended for intermediate to advanced percussionists, as well as students working on the consistency of rolls. The brown felt head helps manage delicate dynamics without a marked attack.
