Essential Information About the PRS Custom 24 Faded Whale Blue Guitar
- Iconic PRS Model: The Custom 24 is the brand's historic reference, designed to do it all, from rock to funk to fusion.
- Immediate Versatility: 2 PRS DMO pickups and a 5-position selector to switch from a dense humbucker to more airy and precise tones.
- Modern Comfort: 24 frets, 25" / 635 mm scale length, 10" / 254 mm radius, and Thin profile for smooth playability.
- Professional Stability: Patented PRS Gen III tremolo and Phase III locking tuners for controlled bends, vibratos, and tuning stability.
A Historic PRS, Revisited in 2025 in the Spirit of the Custom 24
First introduced at Winter NAMM 1985, the Custom 24 is PRS's "signature" guitar: a USA solidbody designed to cover a wide range of styles without sacrificing precision or comfort. In this 2025 version, it retains the fundamentals (24 frets, PRS ergonomics, carved maple top) and gains a decidedly modern approach thanks to the PRS Gen III tremolo and the DMO pickups with a more open and expressive character.
For Whom and Which Styles
The PRS Custom 24 Faded Whale Blue is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists who want a unique instrument for stage, studio, and rehearsal, capable of switching genres without changing guitars. It excels in rock, pop, modern metal, blues, and fusion, with a true sense of nuance for dynamic lines and singing lead tones.
The Sound
The mahogany body provides rich mids and natural sustain, while the carved "Violin" style maple top adds attack, definition, and clarity, useful for both tight chords and articulated distortion. The PRS DMO pickups are designed for an open and "vocal" output, with a balanced response across the spectrum. The combination of volume + tone controls and the 5-position selector makes the Custom 24 very flexible: full and powerful sounds, as well as thinner, brighter positions for clean tones, arpeggios, and detailed rhythms.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
It comes with a case and is strung with 10-46 gauge strings. To maintain the original playing feel and balance, a set of 10-46 gauge strings is a safe choice when replacing them.
