A McCarty "594" at the heart of the S2 range
The S2 McCarty 594 (2024 model) adopts the codes of double-cut guitars inspired by great vintage references, while retaining PRS DNA: assembly precision, playing comfort, and versatility. Within the S2 range, it stands as a USA-made alternative, built for intensive use, with the "McCarty" aesthetic and philosophy centered on wood, musicality, and effective simplicity.
For whom, and for which styles?
This PRS is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want to cover many styles without multiplying instruments. In humbucker mode, it excels in rock, blues, hard rock, pop, and indie, with dense mids and a nice roundness. In split mode, it offers more airy and nuanced tones, ideal for funk, clean pop, arpeggios, and rhythmic parts that need to remain clear in the mix.
The sound
The mahogany and asymmetrical carved flamed maple top recipe delivers a very musical balance: warmth and thickness from the mahogany, attack and definition provided by the maple top. The 58/15 LT pickups (made in the USA) aim for a vintage tone, with rich harmonics, firm lows, and never harsh highs. The 2 volumes + 2 tones setup makes the guitar very expressive for controlling gain and dynamics, while the push/pull controls allow practical coil-splitting to achieve finer single-coil-like textures, perfect for varying registers without changing guitars. The PRS two-piece bridge contributes to stability and sustain, while maintaining an "open" response under the fingers.
Recommended compatible accessories
To stay true to the original setup, a set of 10-46 electric strings is perfectly suited. For stage and rehearsal, also plan for a 6.35 mm jack cable, a tuner, picks, and a guitar stand to protect the finish between sessions.
