From the original Silver Sky to the SE: accessible PRS DNA
Introduced in 2018 through the John Mayer x PRS collaboration, the Silver Sky established itself as a benchmark for guitarists who love the "single-coil" character while seeking refined ergonomics. The PRS SE Silver Sky retains the essential codes of the model: precise playing feel, instantly recognizable aesthetics, and a tonal balance designed to cover a wide range of situations, in a more accessible version.
An electric guitar designed to progress... and record without limits
This PRS is particularly aimed at ambitious beginners and intermediate to advanced guitarists who want an expressive solidbody capable of following the nuances of right-hand playing. It excels in blues, pop, funk, soul, alternative rock, and indie: tight rhythms, defined arpeggios, singing leads, everything remains clear whether playing with a pick or fingers.
The sound
The three 635JM "S" pickups offer a precise and dynamic single-coil tone: bright but controlled highs, firm lows, and well-articulated mids that help the guitar "cut through" in a mix. The 5-position selector switch grants access to subtly scooped intermediate sounds, very effective for funk chops, pop parts, and more airy textures. The combination of a poplar body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard balances attack, clarity, and warmth, while the 2-point steel vibrato supports sustain and promotes good tuning stability for this type of setup.
Recommended compatible accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original setup, choose electric strings with a 10-46 gauge, such as the PRS Classic strings installed at the factory. A standard strap will be perfect for rehearsals and stage, and a good quality 6.35 mm instrument jack cable will preserve the pickups' dynamics. The Gig Bag is included.
