What PSP BinAmp Is For

PSP BinAmp is a saturation and preamp emulation plug-in designed to add depth, thickness, and an analog signature to your tracks. Where a recording might sound too "clean" or linear, BinAmp adds tube-typed harmonic density, with gentle compression and warmth that helps a source stand out in the mix without necessarily increasing the perceived volume.

Its character is especially effective on drums (kick, snare, overheads, room), vocals, loops, electric pianos like Rhodes or Clavinet, as well as digital synths that quickly gain texture. It also works very well on guitars and basses, complementing an amp simulation, on a reamp bus, or simply to "round off" a DI and give it a more credible vintage color.

Main Features

Saturation Inspired by a Legendary Preamp

At the heart of PSP BinAmp is a Class A triode preamp emulation inspired by the Echorec 2, a magnetic drum delay machine renowned for its warm and musical sound. The goal here is not to reproduce a delay, but to capture the personality of its preamplification stage and its very distinctive grain, ideal for enriching a track without making it harsh.

Control of Grain, Spectrum, and Level

The workflow is straightforward: you increase the Drive to generate saturation (with a range of +/-20 dB), then adjust the Output (up to +/-20 dB) to maintain a consistent level and objectively compare "with" or "without." To shape the frequency response, you have a High Pass filter (useful to avoid unnecessarily thickening the low end) and a Rolloff for high frequencies to soften a bright source or simulate an older sound.

Parallel Blend and Dynamic Management in the Mix

The Blend control allows mixing the saturated and dry signals, a powerful approach on drums, drum buses, vocals, or synths: you retain the attack and clarity of the source while adding body and "glue." It's also an effective method to achieve present but controlled saturation without excessively squashing transients.

Pad, Polarity, and Multi-Instance Coherence

For very hot signals, a -20 dB input PAD with output gain compensation facilitates adjustment without saturating too quickly. PSP BinAmp also offers separate polarity buttons at input and output: useful for quickly checking phase interactions, especially in parallel processing, doubling, or multi-mic recordings. Finally, the Variation parameter adds a welcome subtlety: it modifies individual behavior between channels and across different instances in a session, maintaining a more organic feel when using BinAmp on multiple tracks.

Audio Quality and User Comfort

The processing relies on high-quality algorithms, with internal oversampling (quad sampling up to 192 kHz) to preserve a clean and detailed sound, even when your project runs at lower sample rates. Parameters benefit from smoothing for fluid, click-free adjustments, and latency remains extremely low, making the plug-in enjoyable to use both in production and mixing.
