What PSP FETpressor Is For
PSP FETpressor is a FET compressor plugin designed to capture the feel and responsiveness of classic 1970s FET compressors while maintaining simple and precise usability in modern production. It excels whenever you need to stabilize dynamics and add immediate presence: vocals that "stick" to the mix, firmer bass, denser guitars, punchier drums, or more energetic percussion buses.
Its sonic signature suits both mixing and tracking stages: the near-instantaneous compression manages transients (snare attack, vocal snap, bass pick) with a clear and musical result. Thanks to Zero Latency Processing, it integrates naturally into a monitoring chain and helps secure levels without compromising playing or performing comfort.
Main Features
FET "feedback" compression: speed, control, and musicality
PSP FETpressor is based on a "feedback" type FET topology designed to deliver very fast compression and an immediate sense of control while preserving a lively character. The continuously adjustable ratio allows you to go from simple level holding to more pronounced compression, depending on the source and desired aesthetic. On vocals, it can smooth volume variations while maintaining articulation; on drums, it can catch transients to enhance attack and clarity.
High-pass sidechain: less pumping, more stability
An internal high-pass filter in the sidechain helps control the influence of low frequencies on detection. The result: less unwanted pumping on bass-heavy sources (kick drum, bass, synths), and more consistent compression when the low end dominates. This is key to keeping a clean mix while pushing energy, especially on drum buses or close-mic vocal takes.
Instant parallel: NY-style blend
The blend knob (dry/wet) makes parallel compression quick and intuitive: you retain the attack and dynamics of the dry signal while adding the body and density of the compressed signal. This approach is highly effective on snare, room mics, drum buses, rhythm guitars, and even vocals that need to stay upfront without becoming harsh.
Stereo and Mid/Side: precision on buses and masters
In addition to traditional mono/stereo use, PSP FETpressor offers Mid/Side operation to treat the center (Mid) and sides (Side) differently. This is particularly useful for tightening the center (kick, snare, lead vocals) while letting the stereo image breathe, or for controlling ambience and reverbs present on the sides. The plugin also includes channel selection and a link switch to adapt compression behavior according to the source and desired stereo coherence.
Subtle color even without compression
PSP FETpressor features makeup amplifier and output transformer emulations that can add a discreet and musical texture. Even with a 1:1 ratio, you can exploit this slight coloration to give more depth, density, and "grain" to a track or bus without obvious saturation.
Zero latency: ideal for recording and live use
Part of the Zero Latency Processing series, PSP FETpressor is particularly comfortable for live monitoring, broadcast production, and level management during tracking. You maintain an immediate feel while benefiting from dynamic control worthy of a classic FET compressor, with settings designed for speed and musicality.

Questions frequently asked
Is PSP Audioware FETpressor compatible with Windows 11 and macOS Monterey?
Compatibility covers Windows 7 through Windows 11. On Mac, the plugin works from OS X/macOS 10.10 up to macOS 12.01 Monterey.
Is this compressor suitable for zero-latency monitoring?
The Zero Latency Processing is designed for live monitoring, tracking, and broadcast production. The FET feedback compression provides nearly instantaneous transient control.
How to avoid pumping on a bass or kick drum?
Thanks to the integrated high-pass filter in the sidechain, low frequencies have less influence on detection. This keeps compression more stable on a kick, bass, or synth loaded with low end. This setting helps maintain a cleaner low end on a drum bus.
Is Mid/Side processing available on stereo buses?
Mid/Side mode allows separate processing of the center and sides of the stereo image. A channel selector and link switch are also provided to adjust stereo behavior.
Can color be added without compression?
With the ratio set to 1:1, the makeup amplifier and output transformer emulations add subtle coloration without compression.
