What PSP oldTimer Is For
PSP oldTimer is an "analog style" character compressor designed for track compression, bus compression (groups), and musical limiting. It is aimed at producers, mixers, and sound designers seeking more stable dynamics and a more homogeneous sound without falling into surgical or cold compression.
On vocals, bass, guitars, piano, or drum buses, oldTimer helps to control level variations, enhance presence, and provide a sense of texture. It can remain discreet with moderate gain reduction or become more characterful when pushed, with a slight coloration on transients linked to its "tube" emulation approach.
Main Features
A compressor inspired by vintage circuits (without cloning hardware)
PSP oldTimer is not a copy of a specific machine: it draws inspiration from appreciated behaviors in vintage compressors to offer a flexible, round, and naturally musical result. The goal is clear: to quickly achieve pleasant compression that supports the signal instead of constraining it and remains difficult to make aggressive even when settings become extreme.
Soft compression and controlled coloration when pushed
In most uses, oldTimer favors a soft and smooth action: perfect for smoothing a performance, stabilizing a bus, or providing a "glue" effect without excessive pumping. In case of heavy gain reduction, the plug-in can add a slight coloration on attacks, with a denser and more "alive" sound, useful for thickening a source or making it stand out in an arrangement.
Digital precision and studio compatibility
The internal processing relies on high-quality algorithms, with 64-bit double precision calculation and support for 32-bit and 64-bit floating point audio streams. With support up to 192 kHz and zero latency operation, PSP oldTimer integrates easily into modern sessions, both tracking and mixing, including heavy projects where responsiveness is essential.
Mid/Side and channel-specific processing (ME edition)
For advanced workflows, the oldTimerME edition allows exclusive processing of the Left, Right, Mid, or Side channel. This is particularly useful for controlling the center dynamics (vocals, bass, kick) without affecting the sides, or conversely containing stereo energy (overheads, pads, reverbs) while preserving center impact.
Presets to get started quickly
A preset library is included to speed up setup, whether for subtle track compression, bus glue, or more assertive limiting. A great feature to save time, compare approaches, and build your own recurring settings.

Questions frequently asked
Is PSP Audioware Oldtimer compatible with Windows 11 and macOS?
Compatibility includes Windows 7 through Windows 11, as well as macOS 10.10 to macOS 12.01 Monterey. Operation requires a x64 architecture on both Windows and Mac OSX.
Which plug-in formats are available on Mac?
On macOS, VST-2, VST-3, AU, AAX, and RTAS formats are supported.
Does this compressor add latency to the mix?
The processing runs with zero sample latency. It can therefore be integrated into sessions requiring immediate responsiveness, including tracking.
Can oldTimer be used on a drum bus or a vocal track?
The compression is designed for individual tracks and group buses, including vocals, bass, guitars, pianos, and drum buses. Moderate gain reduction stabilizes levels, while heavier compression thickens transients with a coloration inspired by tube circuits.
Is Mid/Side processing available?
The oldTimerME edition allows separate processing of Left, Right, Mid, or Side channels. The Mid channel can thus be compressed without altering the stereo sides.
