What PSP Saturator Is For

PSP Saturator is a saturation plugin designed to recreate the behavior of analog devices such as tape recorders and tube circuits when the signal "warms up" and thickens. It is used to add grit, presence, and a sense of perceived volume while maintaining great spectral control thanks to dedicated filtering and integrated dynamic processing. Whether you produce pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic music, or film scoring, it allows you to thicken a vocal, solidify a bass, open up a drum kit, or add cohesion on a group bus and the master (with subtle settings).

Main Features

Multi-character Saturation: 3 Algorithms, 8 Shapes

At the core of PSP Saturator are three saturation algorithms that reproduce different "warmth" signatures inspired by analog machines. To further expand the palette, the plugin offers 8 shape modes: allowing you to move from a soft and round coloration, ideal for mix cohesion, to sharper and more destructive textures for sound design. This combination of algorithms + shapes facilitates quick character selection before refining the saturation amount and tonal balance.

Band Processing: Low, High, and Overall Saturation

PSP Saturator includes three shaping engines: dedicated saturation for the low spectrum, the high spectrum, and overall saturation. This approach is particularly effective to avoid common pitfalls: muddy lows when pushing saturation, or overly harsh highs. By adjusting the Low and High engines, you can warm up a bass without losing punch, add air to overheads without harshness, or thicken a synth while keeping clean transients.

Parallel Mix and Intelligent Phase Alignment

For a result that is both impactful and controlled, the plugin offers a parallel mix mode (blend) with intelligent phase alignment. Practically, you can preserve the attack and clarity of the original signal while adding a measured layer of saturation, without the dips and blurring sometimes encountered in dry/wet mixing. This is a direct advantage on drums, guitar buses, vocals, and synths when seeking more density without crushing dynamics.

Advanced Panel: Precision, Smoothness, and Output Control

An additional control panel provides access to fine adjustments to tailor the saturation behavior and optimize smoothness according to the source. You also have three output modes: off, sat, and lim, useful for adapting the final stage to your workflow (e.g., stabilizing peaks after a more energetic setting). The input gain and output gain controls, with optional relative linking, help maintain a consistent level to evaluate color without being misled by volume differences.

Signal Analysis, Oversampling, and Low Latency

To work quickly and accurately, PSP Saturator offers multiple metering modes to analyze the signal and validate your choices (gain staging, density, impact). If you seek cleaner saturation in the highs and better artifact management, activate the "FAT" quad-sampling option, designed for enhanced processing quality. Finally, the plugin features a very low internal latency (6 samples), making it comfortable to use in production and mixing, even on many tracks.
