The PWM MALEVOLENT was designed as both a stage and studio instrument: a true analog signal path for sound material, combined with a very contemporary approach to connectivity. Born from a collaboration with Future Sound Systems and driven by Paul Whittington's experience in the MIDI controller world, it combines the immediacy of a standardized "ready-to-play" signal with a semi-modular playground ideal for building your own "Malevolence" down to the last cable.

For Whom and Which Styles?

The MALEVOLENT is aimed at experienced musicians and sound designers who want an expressive analog synth without being limited to a fixed architecture. It excels in techno, electro, EBM, synthwave, dark ambient, and transition effects, but remains formidable for thick basses, cutting leads, and modulated textures. In the studio, its patching and dedicated outputs facilitate experimentation; live, the joystick, arpeggiator, and clock sync make it a highly "performance" oriented instrument.

The USB-C-MIDI connector and MIDI inputs/outputs facilitate integration with a DAW or MIDI equipment. The USB-MIDI to 1V/Oct CV and gate conversion is built-in, with analog pitch and gate controls.

How many voices and keys does this synth have?

This model is monophonic, with a maximum polyphony of one voice. Its keyboard has 37 mini keys with a light touch and does not transmit velocity.

Can semi-modular patches be created without cables?

The normalized signal allows immediate use without patching. Dedicated inputs and outputs for the two ADSR envelopes, the LFO, and the filter then enable custom routings. Two VCOs, a noise source, and an auxiliary input feed the mixer.

What type of filter and modulation are available?

The synthesis path combines two analog VCOs with a 2-pole multimode filter, usable as low-pass, band-pass, or high-pass. A triangle and square wave LFO, as well as two independent ADSR envelopes, provide modulation.
