Reason: the DNA of the Rack since 1994, a "hardware" approach turned standard

Reason was built around a simple idea: to let you shape your sound, your way. Since its origins in Sweden (a "boutique" identity embraced since 1994), the software has popularized a very hardware-centric vision of music production: a Rack filled with machines, effects, and MIDI tools connected like in a real studio. Reason 14 continues this tradition with a modernized workflow that brings sound design, arrangement, and mixing even closer together without losing what defines its signature.

Who Reason 14 is for: producers, songwriters, and sound designers who want to work fast... without limits

Reason 14 is aimed at those who want an efficient workstation to write, record, and finish tracks while keeping a vast playground for sound creation. Whether you produce electro, hip-hop, pop, film music, or experimental textures, the Rack lets you start from a preset and go very far, or build a chain from A to Z with creative audio and CV routings. And if you're already comfortable in another DAW, the plugin mode lets you import the Rack as is into your setup without changing your editing or arrangement habits.

Reason 14: a more direct workflow, an even more inspiring Rack

A sequencer focused on the track, clearer for daily use

The major evolution in Reason 14 is the feeling of staying "in the track": the Track Panel puts your processing chain, levels, and sends within reach directly in the sequencer. The result: fewer back-and-forths between windows, more continuity when building a sound, automating an effect, or adjusting balances. Track Folders simplify organizing dense projects (drums, layered synths, vocal stems), and smarter clips make arrangement smoother, especially when iterating quickly on a structure.

MIDI and tempo tools that remove friction

When inspiration strikes, the software must keep up. Reason 14 adds automatic tempo detection to align audio ideas faster with your session, and MIDI Note Chase so held notes and MIDI states remain coherent when resuming playback mid-track. These are the kinds of details that save time, especially in modern production where you constantly navigate between loops, variations, and takes.

RV-9 Reverb Station: a new generation of creative reverb

Reason 14 introduces the RV-9 Reverb Station, presented as the successor to the iconic RV7000. The idea is not just to add "one more reverb," but to offer a broad palette of nine algorithms, ranging from realistic rooms to much more design-oriented textures (granular, spectral, and an Echoverb approach). For a producer, it's a reverb capable of being both a spatial placement tool and a full instrument to transform a mundane source into a signature atmosphere.

A more comfortable environment: extended Dark Mode and visual coherence

The Dark Mode is no longer limited to one area: it extends more coherently across the entire interface, including the Mixer. Over long sessions, this improves readability and reduces eye strain while giving a more modern and unified system feel.

From first recording to mix: a complete chain without interruption

Beyond the new features, Reason remains a very solid DAW for "end-to-end" production. You record audio and MIDI, edit with dedicated tools like Comp Edit (assembling the best take from multiple recordings), Slice Edit, and Vocal Edit for timing and pitch, with real-time time stretching designed to stay clean at the project scale. Mixing relies on a console inspired by the SSL 9000k, with channel strip logic, dynamics, EQ, and routing adapted to current productions, up to the master bus.

A richer library to start fast (and go far)

Reason 14 comes with enhanced content: over 900 new drum samples, 50 new Europa presets using 50 new wavetable samples, and 20 new RV7000 presets based on 20 new impulse response samples. Add to that a base announced at over 30,000 patches, loops, and samples and a Browser oriented for quick tag-based searching: you move from idea to result without breaking your flow.

Two ways to work: full DAW or Rack as a plugin

Reason 14 can be used as your main environment or as a creative extension within another audio workstation via VST3, AU, and AAX formats. This is a real advantage if you want to keep your mixing or editing DAW while enjoying the Rack, its routings, and devices in your existing sessions. Backward compatibility of projects and Rack Extensions also allows you to evolve your setup without starting from scratch.
