Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

With the D20, Revv delivers a compact head designed for modern guitarists who want the simplicity of a small tube amp and the flexibility of a direct rig. This model fits into a premium "plug-and-play" approach: one channel, essential controls, and an onboard Two Notes ecosystem for traveling light, playing silently with headphones, quick recording, or gigging without miking a cabinet.

Who This Amp Is For

The Revv D20 targets intermediate to professional guitarists looking for an easy-to-set, reliable, and versatile tube head. It excels in studio (direct input, preset recall), rehearsal (20W power for headroom), and silent stage settings (XLR DI to console). Style-wise, its DNA is perfect for rock, pop, blues, indie, and anything revolving around dynamic cleans and edge of breakup, with excellent pedal compatibility for pushing into more modern saturations.

Features and Innovations

The D20 gets straight to the point: Gain, Volume, and a 3-band EQ to quickly shape your tone. The gain knob includes a push/pull function to activate a second voicing that's crunchier-ideal when you want to switch from tight clean to more biting crunch without changing your entire setup. Power is switchable between 20W and 4W to maintain tube feel at controlled volumes.
The "modern rig" core relies on the reactive Torpedo loadbox and onboard simulation: virtual speakers, microphones, digital EQ, and reverb to deliver a polished direct sound. The head is USB compatible with Torpedo Software for fine preset customization. In loadbox mode, the Pre/Post selector lets you include or bypass the power amp section in the chain, enabling exploration of power amp simulations to dramatically alter character (e.g., virtual EL84 tubes). Add to this a series effects loop with buffer, a balanced XLR DI with Ground Lift, an adjustable-level headphone output, and MIDI preset control: the D20 is designed to simplify your workflow without sacrificing tone.

The Sound

All-tube (6V6 power tubes, 12AX7 preamp tubes), the Revv D20 offers a rich and responsive tone with a clear attack and a pleasant natural compression when pushing gain. The clean channel maintains great definition and dynamics that respond to your picking hand, while the "pull" voicing delivers a thicker crunch, very musical and perfect for rock and punchy rhythms. Its "low wattage" format remains surprisingly comfortable: at 20W, you get enough headroom for solid clean tones, and at 4W, you quickly reach that warmth and "working amp" feel.
The tonal philosophy clearly centers on a pedal platform: overdrive, fuzz, modern distortion, delays, and reverbs integrate easily, and the series loop helps maintain clarity with modulation and spatial effects. To place its sound universe, the D20 is used by artists with diverse profiles such as Rabea Massaad, Andy Wood, Timo Somers, Trey Xavier, Shawn Tubbs, and Jocelyn Gould, demonstrating its versatility from modern rock to roots playing and contemporary jazz.
