What Rhodes Vari-Amp Is For
Rhodes Vari-Amp is a coloration and sonic enhancement plugin designed to sculpt timbre with a "hardware" feel. It is suitable for both sound design and mixing: thickening a Rhodes or synth, adding body to a DI guitar, rounding a vocal, adding density to drums, or homogenizing a bus (keyboards, guitars, mix bus) with controlled saturation. Its "preamplifier + amp/mic" approach helps recreate a realistic chain for sounds that are more lively, present, and coherent in the mix.

Is Rhodes Vari-Amp compatible with Mac and Windows?
Compatibility covers macOS Big Sur 11 to Sonoma 14, as well as Windows 10 and Windows 11. Both Intel and Apple Silicon processors are supported on Mac, natively or via Rosetta. On Intel Macs, an issue reported in November 2023 may prevent use in GarageBand.
Which plugin formats are available?
VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats are included to ensure integration into compatible digital audio workstations.
Is it possible to adjust the preamps and amp simulation separately?
Each section, Preamps and Amp/Mic, has an independent dry/wet control. It is thus possible to blend the direct signal with each processing stage according to the desired coloration level.
How many preamps and amps are included?
Six Rhodes preamps are offered, inspired notably by the MK1 79 Suitcase and the MK8. The Amp/Mic section features 7 amplifiers: DUO, 8015 Combo, L5, Rhodes Suitcase Cabinet, Rhodes Satellite, ACT PA, and EXPR Combo. Seven models of dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones complete this section.
Does the plugin provide compression and reverb?
A compressor with parallel mix and pre/post routing is integrated, accompanied by a global EQ and a reverb. The 3-mode Drive also allows adding controlled saturation.
