The Roland HP704: The "Premium Home" Expression at the Top of the HP700 Series
Designed as the premium model of the HP700 range, the HP704 emphasizes what is expected from a console digital piano intended for everyday use: a refined cabinet (with front legs) and a carefully crafted playing feel thanks to the PHA-50 keyboard. It targets pianists seeking a fuller sound presence and a more refined touch than entry-level models in the series, while maintaining simple, modern, and immediately inspiring use in a living room, studio, or workspace.
Keyboard Design
The HP704 features a PHA-50 keyboard (88 keys) with a hybrid wood/plastic structure, combining stability, durability, and authentic piano feel. The escapement enhances realism in dynamics and control, while the synthetic ivory and ebony surfaces improve grip and comfort during long sessions. Regarding pedals, the "Progressive Damper Action" pedals provide continuous detection (half-pedal) for expressive legato, rubato, and resonance work. To suit every playing style, the response is finely adjustable, with up to 100 velocity curves and 10 hammer response levels.
Sound Quality
At the heart of the HP704, the SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling reproduces the behavior of an acoustic piano by accounting for interactions and details that create musicality (attack, sustain, resonances, dynamics). The result: an expressive piano that follows the pianist from pianissimo to forte, with unlimited piano polyphony in solo mode and 384-voice polyphony for other tones. To project this sound envelopingly, the 4-speaker "Acoustic Projection" system combines two coaxial speakers (12 cm + 2.5 cm) and two 5 cm spatial speakers, powered by 25 W x2 + 5 W x2. For practicing at any time without losing a sense of space, the Headphones 3D Ambience provides a more natural sound image through headphones.
Built-in Effects
- Ambience (reverb) and Brilliance to place the piano in a space and adjust its clarity.
- Piano Designer: advanced settings (lid, key and hammer noises, string/duplex/table/damper resonances, tuning, volume, and character per note) to shape a personal sound identity.
- Headphones 3D Ambience for immersive and comfortable headphone listening.
