What Roland Promars Is For
Roland Promars is a monophonic virtual instrument designed to produce analog-style sounds with strong character: dense basses, cutting leads, expressive sequences, and filter sweep effects. Its subtractive structure (oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFO) makes it an excellent choice for electronic production (house, techno, synthwave, electro), as well as for enriching a soundtrack, pop arrangement, or hip-hop mix with synth lines that have a vintage character.
Thanks to the synchronized arpeggiator, you can quickly generate stable and musical rhythmic patterns, perfect for creating hooks, build-ups, or repetitive lines that instantly lock to your DAW's tempo.
Main Features
Monophonic subtractive synthesis: the heart of the sound
At the core of Roland Promars is a classic and efficient monophonic architecture: 2 VCOs with an extended frequency range, supported by sub-oscillators to reinforce the low end and provide the typical "weight" of vintage synths. This rich foundation feeds a complete filtering section, ideal for shaping both warm, rounded timbres and more aggressive textures.
Dual filtering for precise sound sculpting
The signal passes through a high-pass filter to clean or refine the low spectrum, then through a modulatable and resonant low-pass filter to craft the sonic signature: open and bright, or closed and percussive, with expressive resonances. The 2 envelopes allow separate control over dynamics and timbre evolution, while the LFO adds movement and musicality (vibrato, tremolo, cyclic modulations) according to your programming.
Built-in effects to finalize the sound within the plugin
To go from a raw patch to a mix-ready sound, Roland Promars includes a Bitcrusher to add edge and lo-fi texture, a Hall reverb to place the synth in space, and a Delay to create depth, rhythmic echoes, and repetition effects. This setup promotes a fast workflow: you build, modulate, and dress your sound without multiplying external processing.
Tempo-synced arpeggiator
The arpeggiator synchronized to the tempo helps produce solid, consistent, and immediately usable patterns in production. Whether you're looking for minimalist pulses, more energetic motifs, or a catchy synth line, tempo sync ensures smooth integration into your session.
Plug-Out and hardware control with Roland System
Plug-Out support allows you to use Roland Promars without a computer by loading it into a Roland System-1, System-1m, or System-8 (optional hardware not included). You can also use a System-1 / System-8 as a hardware controller for a more tactile approach: real-time adjustments, more intuitive automation, and enhanced "instrument" feel, both in the studio and live performance.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Roland Promars polyphonic?
The synthesis is monophonic, with 2 VCOs and sub-oscillators. This architecture is designed for bass lines, leads, and single-note sequences.
What filters are available on this software synth?
The signal path includes a high-pass filter followed by a resonant and modulatable low-pass filter. Two envelopes allow differentiation between dynamics control and tone shaping, while an LFO provides cyclic modulations.
Is the arpeggiator synced to the DAW's tempo?
The arpeggiator is synchronized to the tempo to generate rhythmic patterns aligned with the session.
Can this plugin be used without a computer on a Roland System?
The Plug-Out function allows loading the instrument into a Roland System-1, System-1m, or System-8, sold separately. These devices can also serve as hardware controllers for real-time adjustments.
What are the system requirements to install the software?
Installation requires Windows 10 64-bit minimum or macOS 11 minimum, with an Apple Silicon processor or Intel Core i5. At least 4 GB of RAM, 0.1 GB of disk space, and an internet connection are needed for installation and activation. The unlimited license allows up to 5 simultaneous activations.
