A Roy Benson Baritone Designed to Meet the Needs of Today's Musicians

The Roy Benson brand has established itself over several years as a reliable choice for musicians seeking a dependable, musical, and accessible instrument. The BH-301 fits within this philosophy: a baritone (saxhorn baritone) focused on practicality and efficiency, developed with input from musicians to offer coherent technical choices for learning, rehearsing, and performing in amateur ensembles.

For Which Musicians and Styles?

The Roy Benson BH-301 is primarily aimed at beginner to intermediate musicians, as well as players (trumpeters, euphonium players, tubists) looking for a simple and effective baritone for group playing. It performs very well in fanfare bands, concert bands, brass bands, and variety repertoire, where quick response, stable intonation, and a homogeneous sound presence in the mid-low register are expected.

Sound and Design

With its brass body and lacquered brass finish, the BH-301 offers a classic aesthetic and good resistance to regular use. Its bore size of 12.8 to 13.5 mm promotes a progressive blowing sensation: it is easy to achieve a centered sound with sufficient projection to blend within a section. The rose brass leadpipe provides a pleasant response and can contribute to a slightly rounder tone while maintaining clarity at the attack.

The outer slides made of nickel silver reinforce the most stressed areas and contribute to durability. For comfort, the presence of a water key on the 3rd slide is a real plus for daily use to quickly evacuate condensation and maintain smooth playing, especially during long rehearsals.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To protect the instrument and extend its lifespan, a brass maintenance kit (appropriate cleaning brushes and microfiber cloth) is an excellent complement. Piston oil and slide grease are also essential to keep the mechanics smooth and silent. Since the BH-301 comes with a case, you are ready to transport the instrument from the very first rehearsal.
