A Signature Built for the Modern Sound of Monuments
The Schecter Tao is the signature model of John Browne, a figure in British progressive metal with Monuments. It follows a "modern" approach: very fast playability, stable tuning, and electronics designed for surgical rhythms as well as defined solos, even under heavy saturation.
For Whom and Which Styles?
This 6-string electric guitar is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking efficient ergonomics and an instrument ready for both studio and stage. It excels in prog-metal, djent, modern metal, and technical rock, while remaining comfortable for more nuanced parts thanks to the Push-Pull (useful for varying textures without changing guitars).
Tone
The acoustic foundation combines an ash body (sharp attack, tight lows, good definition) with a flamed maple top that adds clarity and a more incisive character in the upper spectrum. The multi-ply maple/paduak neck, paired with an ebony fingerboard with a very flat radius (406 mm), promotes a fast and precise response, ideal for tight palm mutes and extended chords. On the electronics side, the two Schecter USA Colossus / Chaosbreaker humbuckers deliver a high output level and excellent note separation: perfect for percussive riffs, complex chords, and leads that remain clear in a dense mix.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The guitar is strung with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 2221 (.010-.046): a common reference easy to find to maintain the original feel. For transport, a gig bag/case is optional: the SGR-1C sold separately.
