A Signature Built for Modern Metal in the Schecter Range
The Tao is the signature model of John Browne, guitarist of the British band Monuments. Designed as a riff machine, it fits within the lineage of guitars oriented towards progressive metal and djent: ergonomics tailored for fast playing, tuning stability, and effective electronics to switch from surgical palm-mutes to expressive leads without compromise.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
This 8-string electric guitar primarily targets intermediate to expert guitarists who play in low tunings and seek a clear attack. It excels in modern metal, prog, djent, and heavy fusion, while remaining comfortable for more open passages thanks to the push-pull and 3-way selector switch. The format and ultra-thin neck favor fast back-and-forth playing, legato, and extended positions across the entire fretboard.
Tone
The ash body provides a dynamic response and a sharp attack, ideal for maintaining clarity on 8 strings, while the flamed maple veneer enhances definition in the upper spectrum. The Schecter USA Colossus and USA Chaosbreaker humbuckers deliver a modern range: tight lows, present mids, and precise highs for both syncopated riffs and solos. The 3-way selector and push-pull volume allow quick texture variations, from massive saturated tones to more open sounds for clean or ambient passages.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The guitar is set up for Ernie Ball 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom 2624 strings (.009/.012/.016/.026/.036/.046/.064/.080), perfect for exploiting the 685 mm / 26.97" scale length and securing the bass frequencies. For transport, a gig bag can be added: SGR-1C sold separately (optional).
