Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
With the "Black Dot" frame drum, Schlagwerk offers an instrument at the crossroads of traditions and modern uses: the spirit of the frame drum is preserved while meeting the expectations of drummers seeking a more percussive, more "shell-like" playing style, usable with sticks. The "Black Dot" positions itself as a performance-oriented option, designed to expand the available timbres without leaving the realm of natural skins.
Who This Frame Drum Is For
The Schlagwerk "Black Dot" is aimed at both percussionists and drummers wishing to integrate a frame drum into their set, whether in the studio or on stage. Its controlled character and clear bass suit styles requiring a solid foundation and few overtones: world music, acoustic, pop, ambient, film music, and all settings where a present bass without overwhelming resonance is desired. From beginner level (intuitive handling) to intermediate and advanced (work on nuances, ghost notes, dynamics), it offers a very musical progression margin.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Schlagwerk RTS51D be played with sticks?
The central Black Dot reinforces the striking area and protects the goatskin head during repeated playing. Combined with the wooden cross and the optional Schlagwerk RTH10 accessory, this frame drum can be played with sticks or rods.
What sound does the 50 cm Black Dot produce?
The natural goatskin and beech shell deliver a firm low end with subdued harmonics. The fundamental tone remains present and the attacks retain clear definition.
What are the dimensions of the RTS51D frame drum?
It has a diameter of 50 cm with a depth of 8 cm, weighing 1.23 kg.
Is the Black Dot suitable for mounting in a drum kit?
This model is designed for a more percussive approach, similar to a drum, thanks to its wooden cross. Playing it with sticks allows the creation of backbeat patterns and articulations inspired by a tom. The RTH10 accessory is offered optionally for this use.
What material is the frame of the Schlagwerk Black Dot made of?
The frame is made of beech, a material that contributes to natural projection and stability of the sound response.
