Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
Originating from Nigeria, the "udu" - which means "jar" in the Ibo language - stems from terracotta jars played by the Ibo and Hausa communities. Later adopted in Latin America and the Caribbean, it has established itself in the West as an essential melodic percussion instrument. At Schlagwerk, Udu Drums are handcrafted by Kai Koesling, and this large-volume model is positioned in the range as a bass-oriented reference, ideal for both stage and studio use.Who This Instrument Is For
With its intuitive handling, this Udu is suitable for beginners curious about sound textures as well as advanced percussionists and drummers seeking complementary colors. It excels in world music, Afro, Latin, jazz, pop, ambient, and contemporary music, whether solo, in a hybrid set, or in dialogue with other percussion instruments.Technical specifications
