Summary of This Method

This reissue of the Mauz-Klarinettenschule revisits a classic clarinet learning method by giving it a "new face": a more modern presentation, reworked texts, and an enriched selection of pieces. The goal is clear: to offer a current, easy-to-follow, and motivating method for beginner students, while maintaining rigor on technical fundamentals (tone, fingerings, reading, rhythm, and musicality).

The progression gradually covers the essential elements of clarinet playing: breath control and tone production, mastery of the transition to the upper register (altissimo/"suraigu" via overblowing), articulation (including staccato), dynamics, as well as instrumental technique points such as "abdecken" (covering/fingering placement according to the school). Theory and reading concepts are integrated practically through exercises and pieces, with significant emphasis on scales and chords (major and minor keys, over one or two octaves).

The table of contents notably emphasizes the scales of F major, C major, G major, D major, E-flat major, and A major (up to two octaves), as well as the A minor and E minor scales. Regarding rhythm and musical language, the student encounters sixteenth notes, syncopation, alla breve meter, reminders of signs and indications, as well as a set of "work rules" to structure practice. At the end of the book, fingering charts dedicated to the German clarinet and the Boehm clarinet help consolidate autonomy.

The associated playbooks (Spielbuch) are designed to complement the method with a repertoire calibrated in tessitura, dynamics, and articulations: additional material for clarinet and piano, as well as ensembles for 2 or 3 clarinets, ideal for developing listening skills, intonation, and the joy of playing in a group.
