A Return to Origins: SELMER Tradition Serving a New Generation of Reeds

Henri SELMER Paris reconnects with the company's history by restarting the production of reeds for clarinet and saxophone, the first activity initiated by Henri SELMER as early as 1885. Generations of musicians have known SELMER reeds for their reliability, and this new range continues the recent momentum of the brand on its clarinets, saxophones, and mouthpieces, with a clear goal: to offer a modern, consistent, and musically inspiring reed.

For Which Bass Clarinetist, and in Which Styles?

With their careful calibration and consistent manufacturing, these reeds are aimed at bass clarinetists seeking a more confident daily playing experience: advanced students, conservatory musicians, demanding amateurs, and professionals. Their tonal balance makes them comfortable in classical (orchestra, chamber music), as well as in jazz, pop, stage music, and wind ensembles, whenever a full, stable, and homogeneous sound is desired.

Sound and Design

Made from cane (Arundo donax) sourced from selected wild reeds, these reeds are described as fiber-rich, which promotes good durability over time and better resistance to environmental changes. The profile, developed with acoustic expertise and musicians from various backgrounds, aims for a response that emphasizes roundness and warmth, while maintaining a pleasing sense of control on the bass clarinet, an instrument particularly demanding in emission stability and register homogeneity.

Regarding finishing, the laser marking is done on the bark rather than on the table to best preserve vibrational qualities. The strength and logo remain visible from the mouthpiece or reed holder without disturbing the vibration zone.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve your cane and limit humidity variations, using a reed holder (already designed here for protection and handling) and a case providing good climatic stability can help daily. If you use multiple strengths, a dedicated storage also allows quick identification of reeds ready to play.
