A Humbucker Born from the Custom Shop and the Golden Age of Rock

In the late 1970s, Seymour Duncan established himself as the reference for custom pickups. In 1978, he rewound a P.A.F entrusted by a now-legendary guitarist, with a clear request: increased sensitivity to natural and artificial harmonics, and a snappier response. The Seymour Duncan '78 Model carries this DNA, wound to these specifications, to recapture that "vintage boosted" character that defined a generation.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

Designed for the bridge position, this pickup targets guitarists seeking a credible rock tone, capable of moving from a fiery crunch to biting leads without becoming harsh. It excels in rock and hard rock, especially for legato phrases, singing bends, and tapping passages rich in harmonics.

Sound Personality and Wiring: The Right Balance Between Warmth and Bite

Thanks to the Alnico II and dual coil winding, the '78 Model delivers a full, dynamic saturation with a lively top end that highlights harmonics. Its 9.10 kOhms resistance places the pickup in an ideal range: enough output to push an amp into overdrive while maintaining precise articulation. The passive construction preserves touch and nuance at guitar volume, and the 4 conductors allow exploring coil split for clearer, snappier textures.
