An Alnico II "Flat" Designed for Modern Strats with a Vintage Feel
The Seymour Duncan APS2-RWRP captures the vintage spirit similar to an APS-1, while adopting a Flat configuration (aligned pole pieces). The result is a more even output across the strings, especially noticeable when playing bends or wide vibratos. If you play on a flatter radius or simply want a more "balanced" Strat pickup without losing the vintage DNA, this model is a very coherent option.
For Which Styles and Guitars?
Comfortable in country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska, and classic rock, this single coil pickup integrates easily into a Strat configuration. It works particularly well with bodies made of ash, alder, or basswood, paired with maple or rosewood fingerboards, offering a palette ranging from clear crystalline tones to vintage crunch.
RWRP: Quieter Setup in Positions 2 and 4
The APS2-RWRP version features reverse winding and reverse polarity. Practically, in a 5-way Strat wiring, this allows for cancellation of much of the interference when using positions 2 and 4 (the combined positions). This is a relevant choice if you want to keep the personality of a single coil while improving playing comfort in real-world conditions (stage lighting, studio, rehearsals).

Questions frequently asked
Does the Seymour Duncan APS2-RWRP reduce noise in positions 2 and 4?
The Reversed Winding, Reverse Polarity (RWRP) cancels out a large part of the interference in the combined positions 2 and 4 of a 5-way Strat selector. This configuration retains the character of a single-coil pickup.
Are flat pole pieces suitable for a Strat with a flat radius?
The aligned pole pieces of the Flat version provide a more balanced response across the strings. This design is particularly suited for wide bends and vibratos on a flat radius fingerboard.
What tonal character does the Alnico II magnet bring to this Strat pickup?
The Alnico II magnet follows a vintage-inspired approach based on the APS-1. With a resistance of 6.4 kΩ and a peak at 9 kHz, the pickup covers crystal-clear cleans up to vintage crunch.
Can this pickup be installed in the neck, middle, or bridge position?
This model is intended for the neck, middle, and bridge positions on a Strat-style guitar. It has a single conductor and works with passive electronics.
With which Strat body woods is the APS2-RWRP compatible?
It is designed to be used with bodies made of ash, alder, or basswood, complemented by a maple or rosewood fingerboard. The announced tonal ranges notably include country, blues, surf, and classic rock.
