The Rails version: even more ferocity and precision
The Black Winter is designed to recreate the intensity of Nordic metal: a dark, powerful, and aggressive sound, yet always controlled. In this Rails version, Seymour Duncan takes the concept further by adding an even more consistent response across all strings. The result: a passive pickup that maintains definition as gain increases, with a more focused power feel and enhanced sustain.
Who is it for, and what for? Extreme riffs, palm mutes, and fast leads
This set is made for guitarists who want a pickup capable of handling the heaviest distortions without collapsing into mud. The lows remain measured and punchy, while the mids and highs retain precious clarity for harmonics, complex chords, and fast solos. Perfect if you play in standard, drop tunings, or with heavier gauge strings for lower tunings.

Questions frequently asked
Are these pickups suitable for metal in low tuning?
Both humbuckers are designed for metal, including standard tuning, drop tuning, and with heavier gauge strings. The ceramic magnet helps maintain punchy lows under high distortion.
Is the Black Winter Rails Set passive?
This set uses passive electronics and therefore does not require an onboard active system.
Can the Seymour Duncan Black Winter Rails be coil split?
The 4-conductor wiring allows for coil-splitting configurations. Series/paralleled setups are also possible. This wiring applies to both humbuckers in the set.
What is the output of the bridge pickup?
The rated resistance of the bridge pickup is 16.6 kΩ. The neck pickup measures 13 kΩ, making for a set oriented towards gain and sustain.
What difference does the Rails design make on this set?
The rails design distributes the magnetic field evenly across the strings. It promotes a consistent response with note-to-note clarity suited for palm mutes and fast leads.
