A Seymour Duncan Classic Designed to Transform Your Guitar's Character
The SH-8 Invader is designed for those who want a radical sound: denser, wider, and more aggressive than traditional humbuckers. Its signature comes from its large overwound pole pieces screwed into three ceramic magnets, a recipe that extends the magnetic field and delivers that wall of sound feeling while maintaining good note-to-note definition.
Who Is It For, and In What Context?
This 7-string neck version is ideal if you're looking for a pickup capable of handling low tunings, massive palm-muting, and thick leads without losing clarity. Perfect for metal, hardcore, djent, modern rock, and more generally for any guitar that needs to stay stable and intelligible under heavy distortion.
Design, Wiring Options, and Frequency Response
Handmade in Santa Barbara, California, and wax-potted to reduce microphonic feedback, the Invader relies on a robust architecture: the ceramic magnet provides depth and clarity, while the large hex-head screws contribute to excellent string balance. Its wide magnetic field eliminates the need for a Trembucker variant, even with Floyd-style spacing. With its 4 conductors, you can explore versatile wiring options (split, parallel, etc.) to switch from a huge, compact tone to sharper textures.

Questions frequently asked
Is this pickup compatible with a 7-string guitar?
This version is designed for a 7-string electric guitar and is placed in the neck position. Its electronics are active, with a resistance of 8.9 kΩ.
Is the Invader neck suitable for low tunings?
The three ceramic magnets and the wide overwound pole pieces provide a dense response, designed to maintain clarity with low tunings and high gain.
Can this pickup be wired for coil split or parallel?
Thanks to its 4 conductors, this pickup supports wiring options such as coil split and parallel. These configurations allow modification of the humbucker's response. The standard wiring maintains the compact signature associated with the Invader.
Is a Trembucker version needed for a Floyd Rose bridge?
Its wide magnetic field is designed to cover string spacing typical of Floyd bridges, without requiring a Trembucker variant.
What tonal character does this neck pickup have?
The humbucking configuration, combined with ceramic magnets and large hex screw pole pieces, produces a broad sound with good note definition. The coil is wax-potted to limit microphonic feedback.
