A Foundational Story: From the 1968 Meeting to an Accessible Signature Sound
On March 28, 1968, Seymour W. Duncan met Jimi Hendrix at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Jimi performed two concerts at the Field House Arena. Seymour brought him a gift: hand-wound pickups made especially for him. Installed by Roger Mayer on Jimi's white Stratocaster, these pickups marked a decisive turning point in Seymour Duncan's career. Today, this legend continues in the form of pre-wired pickguards, offered in three configurations to bring the Hendrix experience to your own Strat.
Who Is It For, and What Type of Strat?
This pre-wired pickguard is aimed at guitarists seeking a simple and coherent upgrade : you replace your entire pickguard and enjoy a set of pickups plus electronics already optimized. Ideal for Hendrix fans, lovers of dynamic vintage tones (blues, 60's/70's rock, psychedelic), and anyone wanting to regain a biting, expressive, and very "Strat" response.
Note : this set can only be installed on guitars with routings adapted for humbuckers or "swimming pool" style cavities.
VooDoo Configuration: Design Details and Character
The VooDoo version is notably distinguished by a reverse-angled bridge pickup, a key element to approach the tonal balance of a Strat played "upside down." Combined with Alnico V magnets and Strat-standard electronics (250K pots, 5-way selector), this pickguard delivers sharp attacks, clear definition, and ideal presence for snappy riffs, double-stops, and highly responsive saturated tones controlled by volume.

Questions frequently asked
Is this pre-wired pickguard compatible with all Stratocasters?
Installation is intended for Strats equipped with a routing cavity suited for humbuckers or a 'swimming pool' style cavity. A standard single-coil routing is not indicated as compatible.
What sound does the VooDoo configuration produce?
The VooDoo configuration combines Alnico V magnets with a bridge pickup mounted in a reversed angle. It delivers sharp attacks and presence suited to snappy riffs, double stops, and volume-sensitive distortion.
What electronics are installed on the Hendrix Loaded Pick guard?
The set uses passive electronics with Stratstandard 250K potentiometers and a 5-position selector switch. The specified DC resistance is 6.07 kΩ.
Why is the bridge pickup mounted backwards?
The reversed angle of the bridge pickup aims to approximate the tonal balance of a Strat played 'upside down.' This design is part of the specific features of the VooDoo version.
Which styles suit this Seymour Duncan pickguard?
This pickguard is aimed at 1960s-1970s blues, rock, and psychedelic tones. The three single-coil pickups with Alnico V magnets maintain a dynamic response typical of a Strat.
