A Classic Seymour Duncan from the SSL-1 "Vintage Staggered" Family

The SSL-1 is a must-have reference for capturing the spirit of vintage single coils: a bright top end, clear chord definition, and highly responsive dynamics to right-hand playing. This SSL-1-L-RWRP variant maintains this identity while optimizing for a quieter setup and ergonomics tailored for left-handed players.

For Which Guitarists and Guitars?

Ideal if you're looking for an expressive single coil pickup for clean tones, light crunch, and moderate overdrive: country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska, and classic rock. In the RWRP version, it is particularly suitable to complement a set and achieve the famous "quack" sound in positions 2 and 4 with less hum than a standard single coil.

What Makes the Difference: RWRP + Alnico V + Very "Bell-Like" Response

Thanks to its Alnico V magnets and vintage output-oriented design, the SSL-1-L-RWRP retains a sharp attack and articulate low end without masking the nuances of your touch. The reverse winding and polarity allow, when paired with a compatible non-RWRP pickup, a quieter combination in the middle positions while preserving the authentic character of a single coil.

Questions frequently asked

Is this Seymour Duncan SSL-1-L-RWRP pickup suitable for a left-handed Stratocaster?

The Left version features a stagger designed for a left-handed guitar. The staggered pole pieces are oriented accordingly for this configuration.

What does RWRP mean on an SSL-1?

The winding and polarity are reversed on this RWRP version. Paired with a non-RWRP compatible pickup, this wiring reduces hum in the middle positions. It also produces the "quack" sound in positions 2 and 4.

Is the SSL-1-L-RWRP delivered with a cover?

With its white finish, this pickup is supplied without a cover.

What output level does this single coil pickup provide?

The specified resistance is 6.5 kΩ, in a vintage output design. Alnico V magnets contribute to a clear attack and defined bass response.

For which styles is the Seymour Duncan SSL-1-L-RWRP suitable?

The absence of a cover makes the pickup suited for clear tones, light crunch, and moderate overdrive. The peak at 10 kHz promotes a bright register suited for country, surf, blues, or classic rock.
