  • Optimized for low frequencies with a response from 20 to 10,000 Hz for a clear and deep impact on the kick drum.

  • Supercardioid pattern offering excellent stage noise isolation and minimal off-axis coloration.

  • Handles extreme levels up to 174 dB SPL, ideal for very powerful sources.

  • Built-in swivel mount for quick and precise positioning in front of or inside the drum.

A Pillar of the Beta Series, Built for the Stage

Part of Shure's Beta series, the Beta 52 continues a philosophy focused on live performance. Designed to deliver warmth and presence, it stands as a reference on modern drum kits where reliability, robustness, and consistency are essential.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

The Beta 52 is aimed at drummers, sound engineers, and professionals seeking a plug-and-play, precise, and isolated kick drum microphone. Its supercardioid pattern effectively limits bleed from toms and cymbals, making it a safe choice for concerts, rehearsals, and project studios.

Design and Performance Serving the Low End

Focused on the lower spectrum, the Beta 52 captures the attack impact and sub depth without muddiness. Its sensitivity of -64 dBV/Pa ensures a solid recording while leaving room for equalization and compression.

Feedback and Bleed Control

The supercardioid pattern concentrates listening on the source, improves gain before feedback, and preserves mix clarity at high volumes.

Simplified Setup

The swivel mount facilitates orientation within the kick drum's opening or at the resonant head. You quickly find the ideal angle to balance attack, body, and sub according to style.

  1. COUSIN L.

The Shure Beta 52a is a great kick drum mic. It has become a big reference in professional sound systems and I understand why. I use it to sound the bass drum in my band (pop-folk). I wanted a great sound for the bass drum because in my style it's what gets the audience moving. I am extremely satisfied with it. The sound is round, precise and very penetrating. You have to experiment a bit with the position of the microphone to get the sound you want but it's a pleasure and the results are fast.

On the other hand, for the home studio, the microphone alone is not enough. It must be coupled to a microphone (large diaphragm type) outside the bass drum to have a good representation of the bass. I rather place the Beta 52a inside the bass drum. It requires a bit more research.

In summary, I strongly recommend it because it is of very good quality. The finish is excellent and the weight of the microphone testifies to its robustness. A small reservation on the price because I find it a bit expensive all the same.
