The Marcus Miller V5R embraces the fundamentals that made Jazz basses famous: two single coils, minimalist electronics, and lutherie designed for precision and definition. Within its range, it stands out with its rosewood fingerboard and the attention given to neck ergonomics thanks to rolled edges, for a direct and efficient approach: you plug in, adjust your two volumes, and the character is immediately there.

Versatile and clear, the V5R is perfectly suited for beginner to intermediate bassists seeking a healthy, accurate, and expressive bass, while remaining serious enough to support an experienced musician in rehearsal, studio, or on stage. Its Jazz format excels in funk (attack, slap, ghost notes), jazz (articulation, nuances), but also in pop and rock thanks to its ability to stay well balanced in the mix, even with pick playing.

The sound

The pair of J-style single-coil pickups offers a very usable palette: neck pickup for round and enveloping lows, bridge pickup for a more singing midrange and tight attack, and both together for the clear and punchy Jazz balance. The passive electronics (Volume/Volume/Tone) emphasize touch response: the harder you play, the more the bass expresses itself, and by rolling off the tone control you shift to a softer register, ideal for vintage-flavored lines. The alder body provides a natural balance (firm lows, present mids, soft highs), while the roasted maple neck enhances the feeling of precision and speed, with well-defined notes across the entire range.
