A V7 Designed for Modern Playing, in the Spirit of Marcus Miller
This V7 Alder-4 FL continues the line of modernized "Jazz"-oriented basses: familiar ergonomics, immediate access to vintage and modern sounds, and comprehensive electronics designed to meet the demands of stage and studio. In this fretless version, the instrument emphasizes expressiveness, nuance, and dynamics, while retaining the versatile character of the series.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
This bass is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want to explore fretless playing with a responsive and versatile instrument. It excels in jazz, fusion, neo-soul, funk, pop, and ambient music, where grain, vibratos, and right-hand nuances make the difference. The C-profile neck and long scale length provide a stable grip, including for more modern techniques.
Sound
The combination of alder (body) and maple (neck) delivers solid low-mids, good projection, and a clear attack. The ebony fingerboard enhances precision and clarity, a real asset for fretless playing to maintain focus on sustained notes and fast passages. The Marcus Super Jazz Revolution pickup set easily covers the registers: round and articulate lows, expressive mids, defined highs. The Marcus Heritage-3 preamp with midrange adjustment (and mid frequency via dual potentiometer) allows switching from warm "old school" tones to more modern timbres, while keeping the security of the mini toggle Active / Passive switch to adapt to any situation.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To get the best out of this bass, prioritize a 4-string long scale 34" / 864 mm bass string set (gauge according to your touch), as well as a sturdy strap for standing play. A tuner and a metronome are also very useful for fretless playing to work on intonation and consistency.
