A Texture Laboratory Designed for Sound Exploration
The LIVEN Texture Lab positions itself as a granular synthesizer focused on sound design, halfway between an inspiring sampler and an experimental effects machine. It allows you to start from a simple sound (voice, guitar, synth, field recording) and transform it into living, moving, and musical material thanks to a granular engine designed to sculpt evolving soundscapes and timbres.
Who Is the LIVEN Texture Lab For?
This synthesizer is ideal for experienced musicians and producers, as well as curious users who want to break new ground without using a computer. It excels in ambient, techno, IDM, electronica, synthwave, film music, and experimentation. In the studio, it becomes a resampling tool and creator of atmospheric beds; live, its sequencer and real-time processing allow you to instantly metamorphose a stereo source.
Features and Innovations
At the heart of the Texture Lab, granular synthesis slices audio into very short "grains" (from 2 ms to 1 second) to replay and layer them precisely. You shape pitch, grain length, speed, playback direction, size, density, diffusion, and various modulation options to achieve anything from lush pads to abrasive attacks and controlled glitches. The envelope (attack, release) and low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass filters refine the result for seamless integration into a mix.
In synthesizer mode, sampling (up to 6 seconds) and resampling open the door to fast creation: capture, transform, replay, then repeat. With 32 sample memory slots, you build a small bank dedicated to a set or track. In effects processor mode, real-time stereo processing and the "Freeze" function (up to 6 seconds) allow you to freeze a sound material and let it drift into hypnotic pads. Finally, the reverb offers 6 types, including shimmer, to stack octave brilliance and give an almost unreal depth. The 128-step sequencer (128 patterns) records parameter movements in real time or via step locking, with stutter, swing, and random playback for breathing textures.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Sonicware LIVEN Texture Lab record and transform an external source?
The synthesizer mode allows sampling up to 6 seconds, with automatic start and resampling. The effects processor mode handles a stereo source in real time and offers a Freeze function that can lock up to 6 seconds of audio.
What polyphony is available for granular synthesis?
The maximum polyphony announced is 4 voices. Grains can be adjusted from 2 ms to 1 second to shape the sound material.
Does the sequencer allow parameter automation?
A 128-step and 128-pattern sequencer records parameter movements in real time or by parameter locking at each step. The stutter, swing, and random play functions alter the sequence dynamics.
What audio and MIDI connections are available?
Connectivity includes a line input in minijack format, a headphone/line output, MIDI ports, Sync In and Sync Out. A USB to Host port is also integrated.
How many sample memory slots are available?
32 memory slots are provided to store samples. The unit measures 297 Ă 176 Ă 48 mm and weighs 790 g.
