A Retro Jaguar in the Classic Vibe Series

The Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jaguar captures the defining features of an electric guitar with a strong identity: an offset body shape, short scale length, distinctive controls and vintage-style vibrato. Within the Classic Vibe series, this version focuses on a presentation inspired by the 1970s, right down to the headstock markings and rectangular inlays on the key.

The Shoreline Gold finishing is paired with a four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard and nickel-plated hardware. The tinted gloss finish on the neck completes the retro aesthetic. The overall design retains the Jaguar's distinctive character rather than simplifying it around more conventional electronics: its two circuits are an integral part of the playing experience.

A Short Scale Length for Exploring Rock, Pop and Indie Textures

This right-handed electric guitar is equally suited to beginners drawn to the Jaguar and intermediate or experienced players looking for an alternative to longer scale lengths. The 24-inch / 610 mm scale length reduces the spacing between frets and, with the same tuning and string gauge, provides a softer-feeling tension. Players with smaller hands can therefore find their way around the instrument more easily.

The C profile, 9.5-inch / 241 mm radius and 22 narrow, tall frets offer a comfortable compromise between chords and melodic lines. The Jaguar naturally fits into surf, pop, indie rock and alternative sounds. Its vibrato allows delicate oscillations to be added to chords, while its controls require a little time to explore in order to make full use of their nuances.

Expressive Single-Coil Pickups and Two Sonic Personalities

The two Fender-Designed alnico single-coil pickups prioritize definition and responsiveness to touch. At the neck, the sound lends itself to rounded melodies and rich, enveloping chords; at the bridge, the attack becomes sharper and more pronounced. Combining them produces a useful in-between color for clean rhythm parts and arpeggios that need to remain clear.

The electronics feature a Rhythm circuit, using only the neck pickup with its own volume and tone controls, and a Lead circuit with its own settings. In the latter, the switches allow you to select the neck pickup, bridge pickup or both together. The tone switch provides an additional variation in the tonal response, rather than being limited to the main tone control.

The poplar body is paired with a bolt-on maple neck and an Indian laurel key. On this electric guitar, the character heard through the amplifier depends primarily on the pickups, settings and playing style: this combination of materials provides the foundation for the instrument's mechanical response, without defining its sound on its own.

The six-saddle floating bridge with cylindrical saddles and non-locking vibrato contribute to this Jaguar's distinctive behavior. They encourage you to work on bends and vibrato chords rather than pursue the extreme effects of a locking system. Proper bridge adjustment and string tension remain important for balancing comfort, sustain and tuning stability.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To retain the original string gauge, choose a set of six nickel-plated steel electric guitar strings ranging from .009 to .042 inch / 0.229 to 1.067 mm. This is the most direct choice for replacing the strings without intentionally changing their tension. A chromatic tuner and picks can also complete your setup, with no constraints related to the Jaguar body's distinctive shape.
