What the Tape Effect Plug-in Is For

This plug-in is designed to recreate the typical tape modulations and delays, where mechanics (motors, reels, speed variations) and saturation brought natural movement to the sound. It can be used both as an insert on a track (vocals, guitar, bass, synth, Rhodes) and on a bus (backings, guitars, effects) to add depth, width, and musical "wobble." Depending on the settings, you can go from simple thickening like double tracking to sophisticated flanging effects, or a short slapback perfect for vintage, rock, pop, electro, and lo-fi productions.

Main Features

Tape Effects: Modulation, Slapback, and Texture

The plug-in simulates various classic treatments made famous by tape machine setups: phaser, flanger, chorus, and tape echo with slapback. These effects take advantage of the micro-delays and phase interactions typical of tape, delivering a lively sound that integrates easily into a mix. The adjustable stereo width allows you to shift from a subtle, centered effect to a wide and enveloping image, useful for expanding choirs, clean guitars, or pads.

Tape Saturation: Mastering Tape or Cassette

The Tape Saturation section offers two distinct behaviors: a mastering tape machine with a more "hi-fi" grain and a cassette deck with a more pronounced character. The automatic level adjustment makes exploring tonal colors easier without fighting volume variations, speeding up workflow when quickly seeking the right amount of warmth, density, and natural compression.

Double Tracker: Free or Synchronized Thickening

The Double Tracker section allows you to create tape-style doubling, either free or tempo-synchronized, with delay times up to 500 ms. It's ideal for thickening a lead vocal without drowning it, giving a "double take" feel to a guitar, widening a mono synth, or adding a creative micro-delay on a snare or vocal slapback. Phase and routing settings via Blend Type offer three different configurations, handy for adapting the effect to the source and avoiding unwanted cancellations in mono.

Auto Flange: Studio-Style Flanging

The Auto Flange mode replicates the complex operation of vintage flangers, where an engineer manipulated faders and reels to achieve organic, unpredictable sweeps. This provides smooth transitions, expressive phase dips, and rich movement, particularly effective on guitar buses, overheads, pads, or transition effects.

Scalable Interface

The scalable user interface offers multiple selectable sizes, improving comfort on laptops as well as multi-screen studio setups, and allowing more precise parameter adjustments during mixing.
