Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
This Stewart Copeland Signature snare captures the spirit of an iconic instrument: the model Copeland used during his time with The Police, which he himself describes as having a "mysterious" origin. The goal is not to offer just a metal snare drum, but a faithful reproduction of a sound : a clear attack, immediate presence, and natural control that leaves room for the "bass's funeral chant" and sharp guitars. Within the range, it positions itself as a characterful signature snare, designed to achieve a precise sonic aesthetic rather than neutral versatility.
Who This Drum Is For
This snare is aimed at intermediate to expert drummers seeking an expressive and inspiring instrument capable of responding to the dynamic and articulated playing style typical of Copeland. It is particularly suited for rock, new wave, punk, pop, reggae, and generally any styles where a clearly defined, ghost-note-energetic, and rimshot-solid snare is desired. Whether in rehearsal or studio, it's ideal if you like a snare that "speaks" quickly and remains clear in a busy mix.

Questions frequently asked
What sound does the Tama SC145 Stewart Copeland 14 x 5 produce?
The 1.5 mm brass shell delivers a fast attack, pronounced projection, and solid low-mid range. The 14 x 5 inch size promotes a direct and defined response.
Why does the snare drum use two types of hoops?
The cast hoop on the batter side tightens the pitch and enhances the sharpness of rimshots. The triple-flanged Steel Mighty hoop on the snare side maintains a sensitive response to light strokes.
Is this snare suitable for rock and new wave?
This setup targets rock, new wave, punk, pop, and reggae styles. Its 10 lugs on each side and 1.5 mm shell thickness allow tuning stability under high tensions.
What is the material and finish of this signature snare?
The snare is constructed from brass and features a gray chrome finish with chrome hardware.
Is it responsive for ghost notes?
Thanks to the triple-flanged bottom hoop, the snare side response remains crisp on light strokes. Dynamics and ghost notes maintain precise articulation. The 14-inch diameter offers the standard size expected for a drum kit snare.
