Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

With the Soft Sound solutions, TAMA offers a simple and musical approach to "low volume" practice on acoustic drums. This set follows the brand's sound control accessories line: quick setup, direct compatibility with an existing kit, and a clear goal, reducing volume without losing feel. It is a relevant choice to complement an acoustic drum kit without switching to an electronic drum set.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

The TAMA Soft Sound set is aimed at beginner to advanced drummers who want to practice more often, in better conditions, without changing their drum kit. It is particularly suitable for home practice, backstage warm-ups, rehearsals at controlled volume, as well as contexts where sound levels need to remain reasonable. In terms of styles, it remains versatile: rock, pop, funk, jazz, contemporary music... anything that benefits from precision work (timing, dynamics, endurance, independence).

Features and Innovations

This set is designed to attenuate the volume of an acoustic drum kit while maintaining a playing behavior close to "normal" playing. The Soft Sound rings are placed directly on the drumheads, which limits harmonics and projection while allowing part of the shell's timbre to come through. The included Soft Sound beater complements the approach by controlling the impact on the bass drum, achieving a coherent balance across the entire kit.

The foam rubber construction aims for an effective compromise: sound reduction, controlled feel, and quick setup. The pack is delivered in common sizes to easily fit many configurations.

Sound

On an acoustic drum kit, the sound character strongly depends on the shells (maple, birch, mahogany, etc.) and drumheads, but also on harmonic control. With the Soft Sound rings, the attack becomes softer and the projection is significantly reduced, while retaining part of the kit's signature: the fundamental note and a more "acoustic" feel compared to extreme muting solutions are preserved.

The result is particularly interesting for metronome work and stroke precision: the reduction of sustain and harmonics makes articulation clearer without giving the impression of playing on a completely dead surface. You thus keep cues close to a stage setup but at a much more controlled volume.
