A Redesigned 314ce: Taylor DNA with a Bold "Studio" Look

For decades, the 314ce has established itself as one of Taylor's flagship models: a sapelli/Sitka spruce Grand Auditorium renowned for its efficiency, playability, and rich sound. This 314ce Studio All Gloss version retains the core features that make the model successful (V-Class bracing, ES2 electronics, "Swiss Army knife" versatility) while adopting a refreshed aesthetic: full gloss finish, rounded body edges with contrasting purfling, refined fretboard details, and a more pronounced style pickguard. The result is a modern-character 314ce designed to inspire both on stage and in the studio.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

Thanks to its Grand Auditorium format, this Taylor appeals to a wide range of musicians: intermediate players seeking a reliable and versatile electro-acoustic, as well as experienced guitarists wanting a high-end workhorse guitar that is balanced and easy to fit into a mix. It excels in pop, folk, country, vocal accompaniment, but remains very credible in fingerpicking and hybrid playing styles. Its neck comfort and articulation make it particularly enjoyable for precise arrangements, arpeggios, and clean rhythms, while still providing enough body for strumming.

Sapelli + Torrefied Sitka Spruce: Warmth, Definition, and Projection

The combination of solid sapelli back and sides with a torrefied Sitka spruce top delivers a very "useful" sonic signature: present and punchy midrange (ideal for carrying accompaniment), a clear treble without harshness, and a precise attack that highlights note articulation. The torrefaction of the spruce provides a more "open" and immediate response, pleasant from the very first hours of playing.
The V-Class bracing plays a central role here: it promotes robust projection while extending the sustain, with a balanced feel between strings that helps chords remain coherent and clear. When amplified, the Expression System 2 (ES2) (sensors behind the bridge) aims for natural dynamics and excellent responsiveness: practical for transitioning from gentle arpeggiated playing to more aggressive attacks, both live and in recording.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the original feel and balance, prefer Phosphor Bronze Light acoustic string sets (same gauge as factory-installed). For everyday playing, a 6-string acoustic guitar capo and a set of picks (flexible to medium for strumming, stiffer for detail) ideally complement the instrument. A clip-on tuner is also a reliable and practical choice, whether at home, rehearsal, or on stage.
