A Thorens Designed for Modern Listening, Balancing Vinyl Tradition and Ease of Use

With the TD 402 DD, Thorens offers a turntable that preserves the brand's DNA (careful playback, mechanical precision, refined finishes) while meeting current expectations: quick setup, broad compatibility, and intuitive use. Its MDF chassis and glossy wood finish make it an elegant piece in a living room, listening space, or home studio corner, while the direct drive ensures stable and immediate playback.

The choice of an Audio Technica cartridge from the VM95 series, highly regarded for its balance and musicality, clearly positions this turntable as a serious "ready to listen" solution, capable of handling a large record collection without complications.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

This turntable is aimed at Hi-Fi enthusiasts who want to rediscover their pressings with precise playback, collectors seeking a reliable turntable for continuous listening sessions, as well as musicians and content creators needing a clean vinyl source for sampling or recording. The semi-automatic operation also reassures users who want to protect their stylus and records by avoiding leaving the turntable spinning at the end of a side.

In a home setup, it easily integrates with active speakers, a soundbar with an analog input, a Hi-Fi amplifier, or a mixing console, thanks to the switchable built-in phono preamplifier. It is perfectly suited for fixed installations (living room, personal studio, lounge area) and any configuration where comfortable, stable, and high-quality listening is desired.

Questions frequently asked

Can the Thorens TD 402 DD be connected to active speakers?

The built-in switchable phono preamplifier allows direct connection to a line input via the stereo RCA outputs. A ground terminal is also provided for setups sensitive to background noise.

Does this turntable have a USB output for digitizing records?

No digital conversion is integrated, and the connections are limited to stereo RCA outputs with a ground terminal. Recording or sampling therefore requires suitable external equipment.

Does the semi-automatic operation protect the stylus at the end of the record?

Start and stop are automatic, which prevents the stylus of the Audio Technica AT-VM95E cartridge from spinning at the end of the side.

Which cartridge is mounted on the TD 402 DD?

Playback is handled by an Audio Technica AT-VM95E moving magnet cartridge, equipped with an elliptical 0.3 x 0.7 mil stylus. The recommended tracking force is 2 g, within a range of 1.8 to 2.2 g. Its detachable headshell facilitates cartridge replacement or upgrade.
