The Thorn Soundlabs Magma follows in the footsteps of current metal distortion pedals: lots of gain, fast response, and above all advanced control over low-end sustain and background noise. Rather than being limited to a fixed signature, it relies on structural settings (Damping and Headroom) that allow you to adjust how the saturation reacts and to "lock" the low end for modern, precise, and articulate rhythms.
Who Is It For? From Modern Riffs to Expressive Leads
The Magma is primarily aimed at guitarists playing heavy rock, hard rock, modern metal, and extreme metal who want a distortion capable of remaining clear in a dense mix. It is also very suitable for drop tuning setups and 7-string guitars, as long as you want to maintain a sharp attack and controlled lows.
In the studio, it facilitates tight takes thanks to the Noise Gate and detailed equalization. Live, it becomes a simple and effective solution to achieve a consistent big sound from one backline to another. It pairs well with a tube amp on clean/crunch channel as well as with other pedals, whether you are looking for a main distortion or an additional "voice" on your pedalboard.

Is the Magma suitable for 7-string guitars and drop tunings?
Thanks to the Damping control, the amount of bass fed into the distortion circuit can be adjusted to maintain a tight attack in drop tuning or on a 7-string guitar. The switchable Noise Gate helps reduce background noise at high gain levels.
What power supply is needed for the Thorn Soundlabs Magma Flexible Metal Distortion?
The power supply requires a voltage of 9 to 18 V DC, with a current draw of 24 mA. The connector is a 5.5 x 2.1 mm barrel plug with center negative polarity. The power supply is not included and battery operation is not supported.
What connections are available on this pedal?
The input and output connections use asymmetric 6.35 mm TS mono jacks. Input impedance is 470 kOhms and output impedance is 2.2 kOhms.
