What Fretless EBX Is For

Fretless EBX is a sound library designed to enrich your productions with a realistic, expressive, and nuanced fretless bass. While a fretted bass provides attack and a "framed" intonation, the fretless opens up a more vocal language: smooth glissandos, subtle vibratos, natural legato, and note transitions that breathe. It shines equally in sophisticated pop and rock, as well as funk, fusion, jazz, film music, ambient, or modern productions seeking a more singing and emotional low end.

This EBX aims for a fast workflow: you start with an inspiring sound (presets), feed the instrument with suitable grooves (MIDI), then fine-tune the character according to your arrangement. The result is ideal for melodic lines à la Jaco, soft and "singing" accompaniments, or more percussive parts where every vibrato immediately reveals the fretless signature.

To speed up writing, composing, and arranging, this extension includes a large internal MIDI library with typical patterns inspired by many styles. These patterns are designed to fall naturally under the fingers of a fretless player, with relevant phrasing intentions (legato, placement, breathing). You can thus start from a ready-to-use idea, then edit it to fit your harmony, tempo, and musical intention.
