What Toontrack EKX Melodic Percussion Metal Is For
Toontrack EKX Melodic Percussion Metal is an EKX expansion designed to enrich your EZkeys 2 environment with expressive metallophone sounds that are immediately usable in production. It is made to write melodies that cut through the mix, reinforce harmony, double a theme, create subtle ostinatos, or add a "cinematic" and bright touch to an arrangement. From jazz to rock, pop to electronic music, and even larger orchestrations, these instruments offer a unique presence: a vibraphone with silky sustain and vibrant character, and a glockenspiel with a bright, incisive timbre close to a bell.
Main Features
Two instruments, two sonic signatures
This EKX brings together a vibraphone and a glockenspiel, two absolute references in melodic percussion. The vibraphone stands out with its soft yet precise attack, long sustain, and natural movement, perfect for expressive themes, jazz voicings, rhythmic pads, or minimalist patterns. The glockenspiel, shorter and brighter, is ideal for highlighting a melody, adding sparkling accents, reinforcing a string/synth line, or creating instantly recognizable hooks.
Studio recording designed for musicality and depth
To capture these instruments with maximum finesse, the sound design was done at Galaxy Studios in Belgium, an environment renowned for the precision of its recordings and its ability to reduce external interference. The goal is clear: to preserve the delicacy of attacks, the stability of sustain, and harmonic richness so that each note remains clear even in dense arrangements.
Vibraphone: three tonal takes to vary intentions
The vibraphone was recorded in two different rooms (the main hall and a smaller room in Studio 1) to offer distinct ambiances, ranging from a wide, immersive image to a closer, more natural sound. In addition to mallets, the instrument was also sampled with a violin bow, a particularly inspiring option for airy textures, organic sustains, and emotional transitions. Result: you can easily switch from a "classic" performance to a more experimental color without changing libraries.
Ready-to-mix presets, from intimate to expansive
The microphone setup was designed to cover a wide range of uses, from intimate to large-scale. In the final product, this translates into ready-to-mix presets that highlight the instruments according to different tonalities and colors, while adapting to various contexts: orchestral arrangement, modern pop production, smooth jazz, alternative rock, or electronic music. You save time during mixing while maintaining a coherent and musical sonic foundation.
Included MIDI library to start immediately
To speed up writing, this EKX includes a dedicated MIDI library. It serves as a starting point to set a mood, test progressions, find a melodic rhythmic pattern, or spark inspiration when building a track. You can then edit, rearrange, and adapt the parts to your production style, just like in a typical EZkeys workflow.
