Toontrack EZX Progressive

What Toontrack EZX Progressive Is For

Toontrack EZX Progressive is a drum sound library (expansion pack) designed to instantly provide a modern, powerful, and detailed identity to your rock productions. It is aimed at guitarists, drummers, composers, and producers working in home studios who want a credible drum kit for complex riffs, time signature changes, precise breaks, and dense arrangements typical of prog metal, heavy rock, and related styles. Whether programming with a mouse, MIDI keyboard, or e-drum, the goal is simple: get a ready-to-play kit with a wide variety of nuances and timbres, without spending hours searching for the right pieces.

Main Features

Kits Designed for Modern Rock Productions

This expansion provides three complete drum kits and a wide selection of additional cymbals to adapt your kit to each track: tight and controlled verses, open choruses, atmospheric bridges, or highly articulated passages where every hit must remain clear amidst saturated guitars. The cymbal variety allows fine-tuning of the spectrum (brightness, projection, sustain) and better "placement" of the drums in the mix according to your tuning, arrangement density, and aesthetic (modern metal, progressive rock, more vintage heavy, etc.).

Brushes, Mallets, and "Snares Off": A Broader Palette Beyond the Big Sound

Beyond impact, EZX Progressive includes a complete drum kit recorded with brushes and felt mallets, as well as a snare drum playable in without snare wires mode ("snares off"). This is particularly useful for building cinematic intros and interludes, airy verses, or sections where you want to keep the rock energy without the hardness of a classic hit. In practice, you move from an aggressive and precise sound to rounder, softer textures while staying within the same sonic universe.

Included MIDI Grooves: A Real Time Saver in Writing

The included MIDI files are designed for progressive and modern styles: they facilitate setting up complex structures, creating variations (verses/choruses), and adding fills without breaking the flow. You can use them as-is for a quick demo or finely edit them (accents, doubles, ghost notes, hi-hat openings, velocities) to match your drummer's playing or your production's intent. It's an efficient approach to move from idea to final track while maintaining a realistic sound.

14 Mixing Presets to Get Straight to the Result

With 14 mixing presets, you have consistent starting points for different contexts: tight and direct sound for fast riffs, wider drums for massive choruses, or a more natural balance for airy arrangements. These presets speed up workflow, especially if you're working on multiple tracks: you load the kit, choose a preset, then fine-tune as needed (room level, kick/snare balance, overhead presence) so the drums fit perfectly with your guitars, basses, and synths.
