Toontrack Michael Ilbert Signature EZX Part 2 is a virtual drum library designed to bring the character and depth of a major Los Angeles studio to your productions, directly within EZdrummer 3 or Superior Drummer 3. It is equally useful for programming realistic drums for modern Pop and Rock tracks as it is for building more organic textures for singer-songwriter productions, softer arrangements, or groove-centered songs.

Thanks to its recordings in very different spaces within Sunset Sound, this pack allows you to alternate between a spacious and enveloping drum sound (ideal for open choruses, ballads, and "widescreen" productions) and a more controlled, rhythmic aesthetic (perfect for tight verses, articulated patterns, and dense mixes).

Main Features

A Sunset Sound Tone, Calibrated for Mixing

In a discreet building on Sunset Boulevard, Sunset Sound has witnessed decades of recordings and studio expertise. For this expansion, Michael Ilbert (award-winning producer, mixer, and sound engineer) chose to capture a selection of kits with strong personality to create an immediately musical library, with a coherent sonic signature and a natural response in the mix.

Part 2 was recorded at Studio 3 and offers four kits, three captured in the main room and one in the famous isolation booth. The result: two distinctly different colors, from warm, soft, and round sounds to drier, edgier, and rhythmic tones, allowing you to tailor the drum impact and perceived distance according to your track.

Rare Kits, Selected and Prepared Like in a Session

The kits come from the Drum Doctors archives and were selected, tuned, and prepared by Ross Garfield, a key figure in the Los Angeles studio scene. This "session" approach is evident in the sound: clear attack, controlled sustain, natural balance between drums, cymbals, and ambiance, and a solid foundation for layering guitars, keyboards, and vocals without constant correction.

To further expand creative possibilities, a full selection of percussion was also recorded. This is a valuable asset for dressing a verse, adding movement to a chorus, reinforcing a backbeat, or creating subtle but effective accents, all while maintaining a coherent aesthetic with the drum kits.

Mixing Presets and MIDI for a Fast Workflow

This EZX includes over 40 mixing presets designed by Michael Ilbert. They serve as reliable starting points to quickly achieve a production-ready drum sound, whether you want a more open and "roomy" tone, a more intimate drum sound, or a modern, punchy balance. On the composition side, more than 350 MIDI grooves and fills are provided to speed up writing and help you find the right rhythmic intent without breaking your creative flow.
